Head of Finance
About this position
Overall Responsibility
Help build a world-class Finance function that supports the company's global growth ambitions, allowing us to move quickly and deliberately in expanding our business. Execute rapid innovation in our Finance function by automating manual processes through new cloud software, implementing fit-for-purpose controls and levelling up our financial reporting. Maintain efficient and effective accounting processes and provide timely, complete and accurate financial management information to support the company in achieving its financial goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the financial accounting for an online school using EdTech platforms.
- Prepare financial statements and reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Manage budgeting and forecasting activities. Maintain and update financial forecasts, including corresponding supporting schedules and management reporting slides.
- Updating operational cash flow models to provide senior management with accurate and timeous cash flow forecasts.
- Preparing and submitting detailed rolling 18-month cash flow forecasts.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and ensuring adherence to quarterly reforecasting.
- Prepare and analyse monthly financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements as well as detailed variance analysis supporting these reports. Communicate financial results and variances to Senior Management.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards. Develop and/or maintain accounting policies and standard operating procedures for all classes of transactions in the financial records. Identify compliance risks and closely monitoring global tax compliance withing our group structure.
- Conduct financial analysis to inform business decisions and proactively analyse business data.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that financial goals are met. Partner with various stakeholders to ensure the rapid changes in their departments are reflected in our budgeting and forecasting strategy.
- Identify opportunities for cost saving initiatives as part of the month-end variance analysis.
- Provide financial guidance and support to senior management.
- Maintain and update financial records, including accounts payable and receivable.
- Preparation of supporting schedules to the annual financial statements and annual corporate tax returns.
- Prepare and file tax returns.
- Assist the M&A division with any information or support to assist our global expansion strategies
- Assist with any ad hoc projects.
Skills & Experience
- Bachelor of Commerce / Business Science Degree and articles experience.
- Professional accounting/finance qualification, such as Associate AGA(SA), AT(SA), PA(SA), ACCA, CGMA, CIMA, CA(SA), membership such as SAICA, SAIPA, ACCA, CIMA.
- Proficient in Power BI for data analysis and manipulation.
- At least 5 years’ experience in a financial analysis, accounting or business partnering role.
- Experience with inter-company consolidations, multi-currency and group reporting.
- Detail-oriented approach to work and proven historic track record in project management (managing teams, group reporting, managing audits or managing month-end).
- Demonstrated history of drafting, updated and/or reviewing standard operating procedures.
- Interest in the tech industry or interest in data and the role that data plays in an organisation.
- Experience with updating and reviewing operational cash flow models and treasury management.
- Demonstrated history of hard work.
- Strong experience in financial accounting.
- Strong understanding of financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Experience with budgeting and forecasting.
- Experience with financial analysis and reporting.
- Experience with financial systems, payroll software and CRM tools.
- Experience with tax compliance and filing.
- Proven experience in adhering to financial deadlines and deliverables in a remote environment is a requirement of this role.
- Bonus:
- Experience in the software / data / edtech industry.
- Experience with Xero and/or Salesforce, or any large-scale ERP (SAP / NetSuite).
- Excellent working knowledge of the deferred revenue principles in IFRS 15.
- Advanced Excel capabilities (Power Query and Power Pivot, Pivot Tables, Array Formulas).
- Experience working with large volumes of data and building reports based on the findings.
